Tetrakis(4-ethynylphenyl)methane is an organic compound that can be synthesized through a reaction between ethynylbenzene and ferric chloride. The molecule has two phenyl groups, which are attached to each other via an ethylene bridge. This organic molecule has three terminal alkynes, which make it a suitable candidate for sample pretreatment on-line. The molecule also has acidic functional groups and is soluble in both water and organic solvents. Tetrakis(4-ethynylphenyl)methane has been shown to have magnetic resonance spectroscopy properties, as well as redox potentials that make it a suitable molecule for synthetic purposes. This compound is also able to form monomers in the presence of growth regulators.
