1,8-Diphenyl-1,3,5,7-octatetraene is a ruthenium complex that is used in the study of molecular vibrations. The molecule can be detected by its fluorescence and has shown to have large absorption bands in the infrared region. It has been shown to interact with other molecules such as naphthalene at cryogenic temperatures and organometallic compounds at room temperature. This compound also undergoes electrochemical studies.
