Methyl cis-9,10-Methyleneoctadecenoate (Sterculic) is a fatty ester found in the fungus Ganoderma lucidum. Studies have been performed to investigate the effects of Sterculic on liver function and its possible role as a dietary supplement. In vitro studies have shown that Sterculic inhibits the growth of resistant mutants, such as those resistant to erythromycin, penicillin, and tetracycline. Furthermore, this compound has been shown to have physiological effects on human liver cell lines. These effects are due to the inhibition of cyclopropene production from arachidonic acid by Sterculic.
