Lumifusidic acid is a drug that has been studied for its ability to inhibit the growth of bacteria. It is a stereoisomer of helvolic acid, but it has not been shown to have any significant antibacterial activity. Lumifusidic acid has shown to have a cytotoxic effect on cells, which may be due to its ability to bind with the ribosomes and inhibit protein synthesis. Lumifusidic acid also binds with DNA and inhibits chromosomal replication, as well as binding with RNA and inhibiting protein synthesis.
