Decyl (9Z)-octadec-9-enoate is a fatty acid that is used as an antimicrobial agent. It is a film-forming polymer that can be used in a wide variety of applications, including surface methodology and detergent compositions. Decyl (9Z)-octadec-9-enoate has been shown to have a number of different effects on microorganisms, such as inhibition of bacterial growth and induction of membrane permeability. It also acts as an absorption enhancer for pharmaceutical preparations, such as antibiotics, which are often poorly soluble in water. Decyl (9Z)-octadec-9-enoate has been shown to induce protein synthesis by effector proteins, which may lead to increased cell wall synthesis and therefore increased susceptibility to antimicrobial agents.
