N-(2-Hydroxyphenyl)benzamide (2HBP) is a synthetic chemical that has been shown to inhibit the growth of mycobacterium avium. This compound is an inhibitor of the enzyme dihydrofolate reductase and blocks bacterial DNA synthesis by inhibiting nucleotide synthesis. 2HBP has been shown to be effective at low concentrations and inhibits the growth of bacteria without compromising the viability of mammalian cells. The compound also has a low toxicity, making it an ideal candidate for drug development.
