Diethyl 1-naphthylmethylphosphonate is a potential anti-cancer agent that has been shown to have cytotoxic effects on cancer cells. It binds to the DNA of cancer cells and inhibits the synthesis of RNA and protein, leading to cell death. Diethyl 1-naphthylmethylphosphonate is a cyclic compound with an aromatic ring structure. The molecular weight of this molecule is 288. The chemical formula is C12H14O3PS. This molecule has a stable conformation at temperatures below 100°C and reacts more quickly at higher temperatures, where it undergoes carbonyl group formation. Diethyl 1-naphthylmethylphosphonate has been shown to induce apoptosis in cancer cells via activation of caspases 3 and 8, which leads to cleavage of DNA into fragments, called apoptotic bodies.
