4-Methoxy-2-methylpropiophenone is a synthetic compound with oestrogenic activity. This chemical has been shown to have oestrogenic effects in both animal and human experiments. In these experiments, the substance was found to be able to stimulate the growth of uterine tissue in rats and human breast cancer cells. It also has oestrogenic effects on other tissues such as bone and brain. 4-Methoxy-2-methylpropiophenone is structurally related to diphenylethane and stilbene compounds that are known for their estrogenic properties.
