5-Ethyl-2-hydroxyphenyl (EHPH) is a phenolic compound that has been shown to have anti-cancer properties. It inhibits the growth of cancer cells by binding to hydroxyl groups on proteins, which are found in abundance in cancer cells. EHPH also inhibits the production of amp-activated protein kinase (AMPK), which is required for mitochondrial functions and autophagy. EHPH has been shown to inhibit the growth of cervical cancer cells in mice. This drug was found to be effective when administered before or after exposure to a carcinogen and was not toxic to healthy cells.
