- 2-Hydroxy-8-methylquinoline
- 8-Methyl-2(1H)-quinolinone
8-Methylquinolin-2(1H)-one is a chemical compound that has been shown to have both antifungal and analgesic properties. 8-Methylquinolin-2(1H)-one inhibits the production of inflammatory mediators, including prostaglandins and leukotrienes, by inhibiting cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase enzymes. The compound also blocks the conversion of arachidonic acid to prostaglandin H2, which is an important step in the synthesis of prostaglandins. 8-Methylquinolin-2(1H)-one also inhibits bacterial growth by binding to DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV enzymes. This binding prevents the formation of an antibiotic-inhibitor complex with the enzyme cell wall synthesis that is required for cell wall biosynthesis, inhibiting protein synthesis and cell division.
