2-(2-Nitrophenyl)pyridine is an ether that binds to the adrenergic receptor. It has been shown to be a functional agonist of the adrenergic receptor, and can be used for the treatment of diseases such as asthma. 2-(2-Nitrophenyl)pyridine is a potent agonist at alpha-adrenergic receptors and beta-adrenergic receptors in human erythrocytes. The compound has been cloned and shown to have activity at alpha-1, alpha-2, beta-, and beta-1 adrenergic receptor subtypes. 2-(2-Nitrophenyl)pyridine is a selective agonist at alpha-1 adrenergic receptors and also shows some selectivity for beta-1 adrenergic receptors.
