1-Cyclohexyl-2-methylbenzene is an organic solvent that is used as a cross-linking agent in the production of polymers and resins. It is also used as a reagent in chemical syntheses. 1-Cyclohexyl-2-methylbenzene has two nitrogen atoms that are able to form covalent bonds with other molecules. The rate of formation of this compound is dependent on the concentration of hydroxyl groups and the kinetic data show an activated complex between 1-cyclohexyl-2-methylbenzene and phosphotungstic acid. The hydroxy group on 1-cyclohexyl-2-methylbenzene allows for efficient hydrogenation, which can be achieved using hydrogen fluoride or by using an efficient method such as the Clemmensen reduction. This reaction produces biphenyl, which can be separated into its two isomers by distillation.
