(2-Hydroxyphenyl)oxidanesulfonic acid (HOPS) is a potential biomarker that has been shown to be elevated in the urine of individuals with bacterial infection. A recent study has demonstrated that HOPS can serve as a biomarker for detecting microbial infection and can be used to diagnose lactococcal infections. The method for detecting HOPS was found to have good sensitivity and specificity. The results of this study also showed that the concentration of HOPS in urine correlated with the glomerular filtration rate, suggesting that it may be a marker for renal toxicity.
