Triptolide is a natural drug that has been found to have potent antitumor activity. It is a tripeptide that inhibits the growth of cancer cells by blocking their ability to take up glucose, which is necessary for cell survival and proliferation. Triptolide also induces apoptosis in cancer cells by activation of caspase-3, an enzyme responsible for the breakdown of proteins in cells. Triptolide was shown to be effective against subcutaneous tumors as well as xenograft tumor growth in mice.
