Guanfacine is an alpha-2 receptor agonist that is used to treat children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and adults with hypertension. It affects the central nervous system by stimulating certain brain functions, such as decreasing blood pressure and reducing the levels of certain hormones that are associated with stress. Guanfacine has been shown to be well tolerated in clinical trials for ADHD in children and adults, and does not appear to cause any significant side effects when used at recommended doses. The drug has also been found to be safe for use in patients with heart disease or high blood pressure.
