25,26-Dihydroxyvitamin D3 is a synthetic product that inhibits the growth of breast cancer cells. This compound is structurally similar to vitamin D3 and has been shown to inhibit the growth of animals with colon cancer. It has also been used in humans to inhibit the growth of breast cancer cells. 25,26-Dihydroxyvitamin D3 inhibits cell proliferation by decreasing the levels of plasma concentrations of hydroxy group and human serum albumin as well as inhibiting protein synthesis in intestinal cells and tubule cells. The effects on these different types of cells may be due to its ability to form isomers with vitamin D3.
