Metformin is a pharmaceutical agent that is used to treat type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome. Metformin inhibits the enzyme gluconeogenic dehydrogenase, which leads to a decrease in blood glucose levels. It also reduces insulin resistance and dyslipidemia by inhibiting the release of insulin from pancreatic beta cells.
