5-Iodo-pyridine-3-carbaldehyde (5IP) is a pharmacological agent that has significant anticancer activity in DU145 cells. 5IP is a metabolite of thiosemicarbazide, which has been shown to have cytotoxic effects against prostate carcinoma cells. 5IP also possesses antiangiogenic properties and may be useful as an adjuvant therapy for breast cancer patients who are receiving chemotherapy or radiation. This compound has not been evaluated in humans but is toxic in animal models. The biological effects of 5IP are due to its ability to inhibit the transcription and translation of proteins, leading to reduced cell proliferation.
