Duocarmycin is a natural product that belongs to the family of radical inhibitors. It is an anticancer drug that has been shown to inhibit the growth of tumor cells by blocking the production of DNA and RNA. The prodrug form of duocarmycin, N-Boc-1-bromo-2-naphthalenamine, has been optimised for clinical use by its ability to be purified and prepared in large quantities. Duocarmycin also inhibits other enzymes that are necessary for cell growth, such as protein kinase C and tyrosine kinases. This activity may be due to its ability to bind with amino acid chains and purify them from other proteins.
