2-Amino-4-(trifluoromethyl)pyridine is an activating reagent that has been used to introduce amines in the presence of chlorine. It is also a nucleophile and has been shown to be cytotoxic against human cancer cells in culture. 2-Amino-4-(trifluoromethyl)pyridine can be synthesized by reacting 4-chlorobenzaldehyde with 2,2'-diaminodiphenylether. This compound is also capable of introducing amines into organic molecules, including pyridones, which are biologically active compounds. 2-Amino-4-(trifluoromethyl)pyridine has been shown to have anticancer properties and may inhibit cell growth in lung cancer cells by causing DNA damage.
