2-Amino-5-iodo-4-methylpyridine is a conformationally restricted analog of epibatidine that has been synthesized by intramolecular cyclization. This compound has shown potent activity against pain in animal studies and is promising for the development of new analgesics. 2-Amino-5-iodo-4-methylpyridine binds to nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, which are found in the central nervous system and peripheral nervous system. The compound mimics nicotine, which activates these receptors to produce analgesia. 2-Amino-5-iodo-4-methylpyridine may be an important lead structure for the development of novel analgesics.
