2-Aminomethylpiperidine (2-AMP) is a functional amine that is used as a precursor in the synthesis of some pharmaceutical drugs, such as flecainide. 2-AMP can be used to synthesize the polyamine analogue of 2-aminopyridine, which has been shown to have potent antitumor activity against tumor cells. The structure and properties of 2-AMP are determined by its molecular geometry, including the number and type of atoms in the molecule, as well as its charge distribution. The zirconium atom in this molecule is an example of a metal center that can be substituted with other metals to give different compounds with different chemical and physical properties. 2-AMP has a neutral pH because it contains both acidic and basic amines.
