(5E)-5-[4-(Allyloxy)benzylidene]-2-mercapto-1,3-thiazol-4(5H)-one is a monomer for the production of polymers. It has been used as a polymerizing agent for acrylonitrile and propylene. The catalyst has also been used in the polymerization of ethylene and allyl alcohol. The efficiency of this catalyst is increased when it is used with an alcohol derivative such as methylbenzene. This product can be used as a polymerizing catalyst or as a catalyst for the polymerization of alcohols.
