1-Amino-3-methylbutan-2-ol is an activating molecule that has been shown to have antifungal effects. It binds to the type strain of the fungus and inhibits its biosynthesis, leading to cell death. 1-Amino-3-methylbutan-2-ol has also been shown to be a substrate for the enzyme oxime, which catalyzes its conversion into 1-amino-2-methylpropan-2-ol, an oxime. The structure activity relationship between these two molecules is not yet known. 1Amino 3 methylbutan 2 ol is a natural product found in plants such as Pteris vittata and Pteris multifida. This molecule can be synthesized by carbonyl reductive or isotopically oxidative reactions.
