2-Amino-benzothiazole-6-carbonitrile is an antimycobacterial agent that inhibits the activity of topoisomerase, which is an enzyme that controls the process of transcription and replication in bacterial cells. This drug has been shown to be active against Streptomyces aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. 2-Amino-benzothiazole-6-carbonitrile binds to the active site of topoisomerase, thereby inducing thermal denaturation and inhibiting bacterial growth. The hydrochloride salt form is more soluble in water than its corresponding free acid form.
