6-Acetylquinoline is a ketone that has been used as an additive in the production of various compounds with yields that are quantized to whole numbers. It was first synthesized in 1885 and was found to be capable of preventing corrosion in magnesium. The reaction of 6-acetylquinoline with phenanthroline, methylmagnesium bromide, and water produces hydrophobic solutes that have been used as advances in measurement for resonance and irradiation. Quantization can be aided by adding a small amount of hydrophobic solutes such as 6-acetylquinoline.
