5-Allyl-4,6-dichloropyrimidine is an isoquinoline molecule that has been shown to have hypoglycemic activity. It binds to the ATP-binding site of the enzyme glycogen phosphorylase and inhibits the synthesis of glucose. The compound is a lead compound for the development of new drugs against diabetes mellitus. 5-Allyl-4,6-dichloropyrimidine has high lipophilicity and solubility and low cyclohexane solubility, which make it a good candidate for optimization as a pharmacokinetic drug in order to increase its efficacy and potency.
