3-Acetylphenanthrene is an aromatic hydrocarbon that belongs to the group of acetylated aldehydes. 3-Acetylphenanthrene is desorbed from carbon disulphide by supercritical carbon dioxide and can be used for the treatment of cancer. 3-Acetylphenanthrene has been shown to depressant effect and activity in mice, which may be due to its ability to depress acetylcholine release by blocking the muscarinic receptors in the brain. Molecular modeling studies have shown that this molecule may bind to surfactants, such as sodium lauryl sulphate, through hydrophobic interactions. The molecular adsorption mechanism for this molecule is likely a combination of both steric and electrostatic effects.
