3-Aminopropane-1,1,3-tricarboxylic acid is a derivative of the peptide hormone glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1). It is a signaling molecule that increases insulin secretion and inhibits glucagon release. 3APTA has been shown to act as a GLP-1 analogue and has been extensively studied for its effects on cell signaling pathways. 3APTA stimulates the transport of calcium ions into cells by binding to receptor molecules. The basic structure of 3APTA is similar to that of other small biologically active molecules such as amino acids, nucleotides, and vitamins.
