1-Aminocyclobutane-1-carboxylic acid (ACBC) is a derivative of the amino acid histidine that is used in pharmacology to study the interactions of ligands with their receptors. It has been shown to have antimicrobial activity against bacteria and fungi. The pharmacokinetics and kinetic data show that ACBC is absorbed rapidly from the gut, metabolized extensively in the liver, and excreted in urine. In an animal study, 1-aminocyclobutane-1-carboxylic acid was found to be efficacious for treating inflammatory bowel disease by inhibiting neutrophil chemotaxis and degranulation.
