3-Acetylacetanilide is an antimicrobial agent that is used to inhibit the growth of bacteria. It belongs to the class of chemical compounds known as 4-acetamidobenzaldehydes. 3-Acetylacetanilide has been shown to be effective against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including Mycoplasma, Chlamydia, and Rickettsia species. The stereoisomeric form of 3-acetylacetanilide has been shown to have a higher antimicrobial activity than its racemic form. In addition, 3-acetylacetanilide's structure includes two primary amines, which may increase its effectiveness by making it more soluble in water.
