6-Amino-5-azacytidine is a hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) derivative of 5-azacytidine. It is an antibacterial agent that inhibits the growth of bacteria by interfering with the synthesis of DNA, RNA, and proteins. 6-Amino-5-azacytidine is a conformationally restricted analog of 5-azacytidine. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of L1210 cells, which are highly sensitive to inhibition by this compound. 6-Amino-5-azacytidine also has carcinogenic activity in rats, as evidenced by its ability to increase the number of lung tumors in rats treated with l1210 cells. This drug binds to purine residues on DNA and forms hydrogen peroxide, which causes damage to DNA and leads to cell death. The chemical structure of 6-amino-5 azacytidine was first determined using nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (
