(5S)-N-(5-Amino-1-carboxypentyl)iminodiacetic acid hydrate is a L-lysine with 2 carboxymethyl groups on the nitrogen giving 3 carboxylic acid groups centred around an amine. The amine is able to chelate with transition metals in the 2+ oxidation state, such as Co, Cu and Ni. Dopamine functionalized Super-paramagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (MNP-DA) can be modified with (5S)-N-(5-amino-1-carboxypentyl)iminodiacetic acid to reversibly immobilize and release histidine-tagged proteins.
