5-Amino-3-(2-thienyl)pyrazole is a bipyridine compound that has been studied for its use in solar cells. It absorbs light with a wavelength of 600 nm and is stable in air. The electron affinity of this compound is high, which allows it to be used as an additive in electrolyte solution. 5-Amino-3-(2-thienyl)pyrazole has been optimized to have the right geometries and population to improve the performance of solar cells. This compound can be synthesized by reacting 2,5-diaminopyridine with 2,5-dimethylpyrazole or 2,5-dichloropyrazole. The nitrogen atom provides the positive charge while the pyrazole ring provides the negative charge. This molecule can be found in other compounds such as pyrazoles and pyrazole derivatives.
