Aminocatechol is a natural compound that has been shown to have antimicrobial activity. It inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to aromatic hydrocarbons in the cell membrane, which prevents the growth of the bacterial cell wall. Aminocatechol also has a minimal inhibitory effect on other substances, such as hydrochloric acid and aminoglycosides. The inhibitory effect of this compound on enzymes is dependent on their substrate specificity and can be used for selective inhibition of glutamate dehydrogenase, which is an enzyme involved in the synthesis of amino acids. This compound also shows antiviral properties against viruses such as herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) and influenza A virus type H5N1.
