N-(2-Aminoethyl)-4-chlorobenzamide hydrochloride (PAEBH) is a potent and selective inhibitor of the dopamine uptake transporter. PAEBH has been shown to inhibit the uptake of dopamine in rat striatal tissue, suggesting that it could be used to treat Parkinson's disease. Clinical studies have also shown a beneficial effect on symptoms for patients with chronic schizophrenia. PAEBH has also been tested in clinical trials for other neurodegenerative disorders, such as Huntington's disease and multiple sclerosis. The drug is not yet approved by the FDA for use in humans, but has been shown to be safe in early clinical studies.
