(2-Aminopyridin-3-yl)methanol is a chemical compound that is a precursor for the synthesis of pharmaceuticals. It is synthesized from 2-aminopyridine and formaldehyde in the presence of hydrochloric acid. The compound has been shown to be selective for cgmp-dependent protein kinase, which may lead to its use in the treatment of hypertension. (2-Aminopyridin-3-yl)methanol can also be used as an efficient method for the production of supernatants through alkaline hydrolysis with subsequent precipitation by addition of nonpolar solvents such as pentane or hexane.
