(2R)-2-Amino-3-(2,2-dichloroethenylsulfanyl)propanoic acid is a reactive compound that has been identified as an extrarenal proximal tubule renal metabolite. It is also found in the blood and urine of patients with chronic renal failure and may be a useful marker for renal dysfunction. The mechanism of action of (2R)-2-amino-3-(2,2-dichloroethenylsulfanyl)propanoic acid is not well understood, but it has been shown to inhibit membrane transport and mitochondrial membrane potential in isolated rat kidney cells. This drug has also been reported to increase blood pressure by inhibiting the uptake of catecholamines in vascular smooth muscle cells. (2R)-2-Amino-3-(2,2-dichloroethenylsulfanyl)propanoic acid can be detected using gas chromatography
