2-Amino-4-phenylphenol is a quinone that has a chloride ion in the 2 position. It is an epigenetic agent that can inhibit histone deacetylases and has been shown to have cytotoxic effects on glioblastoma cells. This compound also chelates metal ions, such as iron, and inhibits tumor growth in vitro. 2-Amino-4-phenylphenol has demonstrated efficacy in treating brain tumors by inhibiting tumor suppressors. This drug causes cell death by altering anions in the cytosol of glioblastoma cells.
