2-Amino-6-(methylsulfonyl)benzothiazole is a methyl ester that inhibits the growth of cancer cells. It binds to the chromophore in the cell, preventing it from absorbing light and producing ATP. 2-Amino-6-(methylsulfonyl)benzothiazole has been shown to bind with high affinity to both the x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and atomic force microscopy surfaces, while also inhibiting enzyme activity. This compound has also been shown to be toxic at higher concentrations. The binding constants are temperature dependent and have been determined at room temperature (25°C), increasing with an increase in temperature.
