2-Amino-6-thiocyanobenzothiazole is an antibacterial agent that inhibits the synthesis of folic acid by inhibiting bacterial cytochrome P450. It has been shown to be effective against Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium avium complex, but not against acid-fast bacteria such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis or Mycobacterium avium complex. 2-Amino-6-thiocyanobenzothiazole is a substrate for cytochrome P450, which binds at the active site of the enzyme and prevents access of other substrates. 2-Amino-6-thiocyanobenzothiazole has been found to have significant cytotoxicity in vitro, with kinetic and functional group modifiers being responsible for this effect.
