5(6)-Aminofluorescein is a fluorescent probe that is used to measure the iron content in cells. It binds to iron ions, which are vital for metabolic processes. The fluorescence emission of 5(6)-aminofluorescein increases with increasing concentrations of iron. This probe has been shown to be reactive with hydroxyl groups and can be used as an indicator of peroxidase activity. 5(6)-Aminofluorescein is soluble in aqueous solutions, making it suitable for use in biological samples. It also has a high chemical stability and significant cytotoxicity against malignant brain cancer cells.
