Acetyl-L-proline amide is a compound that can be used in medicine. It has been shown to have therapeutic effects on the central nervous system, as well as anesthetic, analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. Acetyl-L-proline amide has been shown to bind to a number of different proteins, including the enolase enzyme. This binding leads to inhibition of the enzyme's function, which may result in therapeutic effects for patients with Parkinson's disease. Acetyl-L-proline amide has also been shown to have a conformational enthalpy change due to its interaction with water molecules. The addition of acetyl groups causes an increase in heat capacity and a decrease in entropy when it interacts with water molecules such as hydrogen bonds or hydrophobic interactions.
