L-2-Allylglycine hydrochloride is an amino acid that is a substrate for the enzyme serine racemase. L-2-Allylglycine hydrochloride inhibits the expression of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and glutamate decarboxylase, leading to a reduction of GABA synthesis. It has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on the wild-type strain in animals, but not on its mutant strain. L-2-Allylglycine hydrochloride binds to lysine residues in proteins and nucleophilic attack leads to inhibition of protein synthesis. The effective dose is 0.3 mM.
