2-Anthraceneboronic acid is a boronic acid with an anhydride that has a reversible covalent bond. 2-Anthraceneboronic acid binds to human serum albumin and reversibly inhibits the enzyme, which is involved in the metabolism of dopamine and other neurochemicals. It has been shown to inhibit the cross-coupling of organic compounds, such as boronates, by reaction with electrophilic reagents. The binding constants of this compound are dependent on pH. At pH 7.4, the binding constant is 10 M-1s-1 and at pH 5.0, it is 4 x 10 M-1s-1. 2-Anthraceneboronic acid also has luminescent properties and can be used for light emission applications. This compound can be synthesized from anthracene and sodium sulfide under basic conditions or from anthracene and dopamine under acidic conditions.
