5-Amino-3-methyl-1-p-tolylpyrazole is a fluorescent molecule that can be used to determine the oxidation state of metal ions. It was shown to have high quantum yields in non-polar solvents, such as chloroform and dichloromethane. 5-Amino-3-methyl-1-p-tolylpyrazole has been shown to emit fluorescence with a quantum yield of 0.5 and an emission maximum at 459 nm in dichloromethane. This molecule also has a high efficiency and bandwidth, making it useful for the detection of trace metal ions.
