4-Amino-A,alpha-Bis(Trifluoromethyl)-Benzenemethanol is a crystallized compound that yields the title compound as white crystals. It is soluble in water and hydrolyzes to give the hydrochloride salts of 4-amino-a,alpha-bis(trifluoromethyl)benzene methanol and trifluoroacetic acid. The reaction sequence is optimized using aluminum chloride as a reagent. The reaction time ranges from 12 hours to 48 hours. Friedel-Crafts reactions are often used to make chlorinated aromatic compounds such as 4-amino-a,alpha-bis(trifluoromethyl)benzene methanol and trifluoroacetic acid.
