1,4-Bis(2-hydroxyethyl)benzene is a fuel additive. It has been used to produce polyesters by the copolymerization of ethylene glycol and terephthalic acid. The copolymers obtained have shown high elongation at break and good toughness after processing. 1,4-Bis(2-hydroxyethyl)benzene has also been studied as a possible oxygen scavenger in hydrogen peroxide polymerization. 1,4-Bis(2-hydroxyethyl)benzene is a phenolic compound that can be oxidized to form an ester with hydrogen peroxide and boronic acids. When heated, it decomposes into diphenyl ether and hydrogen peroxide gas. This reaction can be catalyzed by biocatalysts such as enzymes or dendrons. Hydrogenolysis of 1,4-bis(2-hydroxyethyl)benzene produces 2-(2
