2-Methyl-7H-purin-6-ol is a phosphate group that is found in the purines and pyrimidines. It is a major metabolite of 6-chloropurine. 2-Methyl-7H-purin-6-ol can be used to modify other molecules, such as isoguanine, which is synthesized from 2-methyl 7H purin 6 ol. This molecule can also be modified to form 8 azahypoxanthine by attaching an 8th carbon atom to the nitrogen atom in the ring structure. This modification makes it possible for the molecule to participate in reactions with other substances, such as vitamin B12. 2 methyl 7H purin 6 ol has been shown to have biological properties that include being toxic at high doses. It has been shown to inhibit cell growth in mammary cancer cells and cause cell death at high doses by inhibiting DNA synthesis.
