4-Chlorophenylbiguanide is a drug that inhibits the enzyme dihydrofolate reductase, which is involved in the synthesis of DNA. It has been shown to be effective in treating malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum. The pharmacokinetic properties of 4-chlorophenylbiguanide have been studied in humans and found to be similar in both men and women. The kinetic data for 4-chlorophenylbiguanide in urine samples from healthy volunteers have also been determined. This study showed that it was metabolized by hepatic cytochrome P450 enzymes and rapidly excreted into the urine. The enzyme activities for these enzymes were found to be dose-dependent, with an increase of plasma concentrations following administration of higher doses.
